Prairie Dresses

I had such a lovely time the other day when I got together with my gorgeous little niece to finally photograph her in her very own Prairie dresses and I’m really excited to share the pictures with you.  My talented Mum took all the photographs while I chased little Lucie about trying desperately to get her to stand still long enough to have her photograph taken!

I loved getting my sewing machine out again, especially as I got to sew with my very own collection of fabrics.  I knew as soon as I finished designing the Prairie collection that I wanted to make Lucie a dress out of them and I’m so pleased with how it turned out.  I chose the Geranium Dress pattern by Made By Rae which was so easy to follow with lots of different options.  First was the full dress with the pretty little flutter sleeves.

I used my Prairie Doilies fabric for the main dress and my Prairie Crochet fabric for the contrasting trim around the bottom of the skirt and the flutter sleeves.  Lucie loved running around in the sunshine in her new pretty dress!

Here’s a close up of the flutter sleeves.  These are optional on the dress pattern but I think they make the dress look even prettier!

I also made her a gorgeous little Tunic out of my Prairie Stitchy Circles fabric in Coral.  I used the same dress pattern but there’s an option to make a shorter skirt section to make it into a Tunic.  I also pleated the top of the skirt section rather than gather it as I did with the full dress.

As it’s much shorter than the full dress it’s meant to be worn with leggings or jeans but it was such a hot day so Lucie was happy exploring in just the Tunic!

I enjoyed sewing with my Prairie fabrics so much that I’ve been thinking about offering a limited edition of Prairie Dresses and Tunics just in time for the Summer!  What do you think?  Should I dust off my sewing machine and sew up some more pretty little dresses?  Do you know a little girl that might like to have her own Prairie dress?  Please do let me know in the comments below or drop me an email if you are interested and you might just be able to persuade me!
